Baldur's Death

In Norse mythology, Baldur was the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, known for his beauty and kindness. One night, Baldur had a prophetic dream foretelling his own death, causing great distress to his mother, Frigg. To protect him, she went to every being in the world, extracting oaths to never harm him—every being except the mistletoe, which she thought too insignificant. Loki, the trickster god, discovered this oversight and fashioned a spear from mistletoe. He deceived blind Höðr into throwing it at Baldur during a game where the gods were testing his invulnerability. The spear struck true, killing Baldur instantly. The heavens mourned, and his death sent shockwaves through Asgard, leading to a quest to retrieve him from the Underworld. The tale symbolizes the fragility of life, the inevitability of fate, and the profound impact of love and loss in the face of destiny.
